July 15 ~ The Abbey

Hi folks! Sorry I've not posted sooner, but here's my Photo A Day from yesterday's trip to Fountains Abbey:

We were lucky - we entered the grounds not long after opening time, and high-tailed it to the cellarium where this photo was taken. It must have looked rather odd to other visitors; about 10 of us with tripods and cameras, muttering about composition and bracketing! This was an attempt at HDR; I used -2, 0 and +2 exposure compensation on a series of 3 shots and combined them using software. I'm not a technologically-oriented person, but I think this has come out rather well. I've got other similar bracketed sets of images, so might have a go again at using the HDR technique later in the week.

Here are more of the shots I got yesterday that I quite liked. Hope you're all well - been thinking of all my friends in blogland! {{HUGS}}

What lovely photos. They are so clear! The cellarium looks a mixture of spooky and romantic. Love those arches. The photo of the bench with the reflection...really lovely and of course I love the flower pics. Whatever HDR etc means...it certainly produces some great photos...with the help of you, a fabulous photographer, I must add. :o)

I so wish that I could have participated in that meet! Your photos are excellent and provide me with ideas of what Foundains Abbey is like.

I love the looks on the deer's faces. It's as if they're watching you with as much interest as you were watching them.

I LOVE the HDR shot in the abbey. I've downloaded the program "Photomatix" and have tried it on a couple of RAW files where I used my software to create various exposures from that one RAW file, and after using Photomatix, I was impressed, but I see that I need to take a true set of photos that have been bracketed on site.

Florida has such high contrast situations any time I step outside that when I first read about Photoshop and Photomatix having the HDR capabilities, I got excited. I'm thinking I can get some really dramatic shots, but I haven't gone out to take my bracketed shots yet.

Really great photos here.
