February 17 ~ Bewick's Swan

This is a slumbering Bewick's Swan. They're similar to Whooper Swans, but smaller. This is one of a pair of swans living at Washington Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, where I'm a member. Since it was raining at sunrise, that was a no-go photographically speaking, so I waited around the house to see if it would clear up. Sure enough, around 9am the sun peeked through the clouds, so I decided to go photograph some wildfowl. It's been a couple of months since I made the 10 minute drive to the reserve, so it was a refreshing change.

This is my favourite shot from the morning; I was watching the swans for ages before taking a single photo. The sun illuminated the water, making it look like molten gold in parts, and the swan drifted peacefully across the pond.

I seem to have shared my germs with Chris, so he's laid up with the same bug I had. I'm just going to spend the day with him, watching the FA Cup on telly and whatever else catches our eye! Maybe there'll be a few episodes of Scrubs on - we LOVE that show!

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone! {{HUGS}}

Hi AB, it's nice to meet you and to see your photos.

The golden water and white swan makes for a wonderful memento of your moments at the reserve.

I'm glad you're well enough now to become a nurse to the one you care for.

Best to you, Annie

Anna, Phil was saying today that he remembers the first shots you ever posted on the Cafe (of ducks)- you have come so far since those days. you improved so much faster than any other photographer we ever came across (he has a Nikon D80 now!)

The emotion of this moment practically oozes out of the shot. Gorgeous only BEGINS to describe it. I gasped when it first loaded on my screen. Delightful, like so much of your other work.

Ooo - I love it!

I don't even own a digital camera yet (WAY behind, what can I say), so I don't post any pics...which is quite a shame cos I love being able to share a snapshot of my day :)

thanks for finding me and stopping by! You're bookmarked now :)
